If you are a college or university student, you must be aware of the different formatting styles that help you cite a source and format your research paper. There are multiple referencing styles, but among all the formats MLA is the most preferred one. MLA format is basically a referencing guide published by the Modern Language Association.

This style guide was developed with the purpose to help scholars, students, and researchers in adopting a uniform and consistent way to format their assignments and academic works. Referencing styles, no matter which one an essay writer is instructed to follow, contain minute details that can make or break your work. As a student, you have to make sure that you are perfectly following a specific guide.

Since it is difficult to format a paper especially when you are doing it for the first time, the best option is to approach essay writing service providers who can compose the best academic works with perfect formation. But, if you want to do it yourself, read carefully the following guidelines as they assist you in referencing and formatting according to MLA 8th edition.

Prepare your title page

In MLA format, you are not required to add a separate title page. Start your work by writing your name one inch from the top. Your name will be followed by the instructor's name, course number, and date. But remember, all this should be written on the left side of the paper. If you don’t have any idea how to do it, reach out to a paper writing service provider for sample work.

One thing you need to keep in mind while following MLA 8th edition is double-spacing. After writing the date, place the title of your assignment in the center. Your essay should be written simply; do not embolden or underline the letters.

Throughout the work, you are required to use 1-inch margins for every page. If MLA is the only format that you use for your academic work, present all your word programs to a 1-inch margin. Besides pages, there is a rule for paragraphs too. In MLA, the first sentence of every paragraph should be placed half an inch from the left margin.

How to add in-text citations

You must know that in-text citations are used to indicate that certain information has been taken from another writer’s work. Besides this, citing the source also helps you avoid plagiarism. Like every other formatting style, in MLA too, the in-text citation is included at the end of the quote in parentheses.

If you are citing a quote from an academic research article then your parenthetical citation will only contain the surname of the author e.g. "(Johnson)". The in-text citation will be placed at the start of a sentence if it is a narration e.g., “Johnson states...”.

For citing a book, the parenthetical citation will contain the surname of the author followed by the page number from where the quote has been picked e.g. "(Johnson, 148)" . In the case of a narrative citation, the name of the author will be mentioned at the start of the sentence, whereas, the page number will be quoted at the end of the quotation.

Prepare a work-cited page

To develop a work cited page, alphabetically list all the references that you included in the paper. Each reference should contain the core elements which include the name of the author (s), the title of the paper, title of journal, containers, contributors, version, numbers, publisher, publication date, and location.

All your entries should be double-spaced and every second line of a reference should be left indented. Still confused, get help from a write my essay service now at affordable rates.
